Dr Michael McNamara endorses Sabrina Heisey

Respected community leader and former Dracut School Committee member Dr Michael McNamara has endorsed Sabrina Heisey for State Rep in the 36th Middlesex District.

Dr. McNamara's Statement reads:

"Two years ago, I decided not to run for re-election to the Dracut School Committee. At that time, I endorsed Allison Volpe, a newcomer to politics, but a passionate resident with two children in the schools. Allison ran against a very well known insider who worked hard, but not hard enough to beat Allison. The following year, I endorsed Sabrina Heisey for School Committee against an entrenched 9-year School Committeeman. Sabrina was successful in her bid to unseat Matt Sheehan.

This serves as a backdrop to this year's 36th Middlesex District race for State Representative. The incumbent has served for 24 years. Serving in the State House is not intended to be a lifetime position. New ideas, new approaches, new thinking is always good. Sabrina Heisey is the hardest working candidate who I have ever endorsed and with whom I have ever worked. A mother of six children, she has every reason to want to serve the residents of Dracut and Tyngsboro. Sabrina is not afraid to tackle the tough issues or ask the tough questions. I strongly believe in TERM LIMITS having decided and announced, at the beginning of my second full term, that I would step aside and make room for someone with as much passion as I had serving on the Dracut School Committee. I had the energy and stamina to continue to serve the children of Dracut, but new ideas and thinking are always important. The incumbent has served long enough (24 years).

It's time for new ideas, new energy, new passion. I am endorsing Sabrina Heisey as my candidate of choice for State Representative for the 36th Middlesex District. She will work hard for the residents of Dracut and Tyngsboro."

The primary is on Sept 4th.

NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC Announces First Round of 2018 Legislative Endorsements following Historic Legislative Session

Boston, MA – Today, the NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC announced its first round of endorsements for the 2018 elections.

The PAC endorsed these incumbents:

Senator Harriette Chandler, First Worcester
Senator Julian Cyr, Cape and Islands
Senator Jamie Eldridge, Middlesex and Worcester
Senator Pat Jehlen, Second Middlesex
Senator Jason Lewis, Fifth Middlesex
Representative Sean Garballey, 23rd Middlesex
Representative Jim Hawkins, 2nd Bristol
Representative Natalie Higgins, 4th Worcester
Representative Elizabeth Malia, 11th Suffolk
Representative Byron Rushing, 9th Suffolk
Representative Jeffrey Sánchez, 15th Suffolk

“The threats to reproductive freedom at the national level are unlike anything we’ve seen in decades,” said Kristine Glynn, co-chair of the NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC. “In response to that threat, the Massachusetts Legislature has risen to the occasion and passed multiple pieces of sweeping legislation to protect the women and families of Massachusetts: they passed a comprehensive contraceptive access bill, a bill to ensure patient privacy, they’ve lifted the cap on kids, passed a historic paid family and medical leave bill and, most recently, removed archaic anti-choice and anti-woman laws from the books.”

“None of that would have been possible without legislative champions who were willing to go to bat to ensure that Massachusetts could continue to be a beacon of reproductive freedom. We are proud to endorse these legislators who have shown themselves to be champions for the women and families of the Commonwealth.”

The PAC endorsed these new candidates for office:

Chelsea Kline, Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester
Allin Frawley, 12th Bristol
Sabrina Heisey, 36th Middlesex
Marie McCourt, 2nd Hampshire
Christina Minicucci, 14th Essex
Tram Nguyen, 18th Essex
Lindsay Sabadosa, 1st Hampshire

“While we have made tremendous progress this legislative session, we still have work to do to ensure that, in these trying times, Massachusetts continues to be a leader in the fight for reproductive freedom,” said Gena Frank, Legislative and Political Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. “We cannot and will not stop fighting until every Massachusetts woman – regardless of age, race, or economic status – can choose if and when to have a family. Now is the time for bold leadership on reproductive freedom, and we believe these candidates will be those kinds of leaders at the State House.”

The NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC anticipates making additional endorsements before both the primary and general elections.

NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts is the leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization in the Commonwealth, and works to protect every woman’s right to access the full range of reproductive health options, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. The NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC is the electoral wing of the organization and helps elect pro-choice champions into state level offices.
NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts is the state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Mass Nurses Association

We have received our 6th endorsement! We are now endorsed by the amazing Massachusetts Nurses Association. This campaign is proving over and over again that if we stay true to our values and run an honest campaign that works hard it will be noticed and people will be jumping up to help.

I have worked in hospitals over a decade and I believe nurses are the hardest working, most dedicated front line staff. They truly care about their patients, the family of the patient, high quality care and patient safety. At the State House, we need to take care of them with the same level of care they give us.

Dracut Official Launches Campaign for State Representative

Dracut, MA – Sabrina Heisey, a member of the Dracut School Committee, announced plans to challenge incumbent State Representative Colleen Garry in this year’s Democratic primary. “I respect the representative’s 23 years of service to our district, but I have spoken with many residents in Dracut and Tyngsborough who think it’s time for a new voice and a fresh perspective on Beacon Hill,” Heisey said.

Heisey, a mother of six children and a Research Administrative Supervisor at Boston Children’s Hospital who has called Dracut home for more than a decade, will focus exclusively on addressing issues of importance to the district’s residents during the campaign and once she is in office. “I think voters want an advocate who is committed to tackling relevant issues such as the education and healthcare,” said Heisey.

In addition to her work in the medical field and as a local elected official, Heisey has contributed to her community in a multitude of other ways as a volunteer with the Massachusetts Adoption Research Exchange (MARE), the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, Horizons for Homeless Children, and as a Girl Scout troop leader. She looks forward to earning the opportunity to take her commitment to public service to the next level by serving in the legislature.

Although defeating an incumbent is usually a difficult task, Heisey has never been one to shy away from a challenge. In 2017, she surprised local political observers by decisively scoring an unlikely win against an incumbent member of the Dracut School Committee. While Representative Garry begins this race with the advantage of incumbency, Heisey is confident that Democratic and unenrolled voters throughout the district will be receptive to her message of change.

Heisey said, “I look forward to meeting with the voters of the Thirty-Sixth Middlesex District and better understanding their concerns so I can properly address them on Beacon Hill. I believe that great leaders are great listeners, and I am excited about working hard to strengthen our communities.” The Democratic primary election will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Voters can find their polling location by
